We booked ALL our activities through Blue Crab — BEST DECISION EVER!!!
We just returned from our first ever visit to Costa Rica last night and I could not wait to write a review for Blue Crab! We planned our visit without being really sure of the best way to go on excursions to balance active time and down time but Paul at Blue Crab made it effortless—he gave us great information and feedback on the tours we had been considering without once feeling like we were being pressured or directed towards more expensive tours. I was surprised when I first sent an email to get an almost immediate response back and then a phone call within a very short time after that. But the most impressive part was Paul personally following up about two weeks or so before our trip and actually apologizing because he had been super busy and wanted to make sure we were being taken care of properly! That is above and beyond service in my book and we made the decision to book all of our activities through Blue Crab…you will NOT be disappointed in the choice to use them!
We chose a two hour UTV tour along the back roads, mountain trails and beaches in the area. Paul personally picked us up at our hotel, drove us to the UTV rental location and was our own personal tour guide on the tour. We saw so many great areas and learned so much about the people and the towns plus got a lot of great information on things to do and places to eat. And how many people can say they were in a literal traffic jam of goats herding down a back road??? (still the funniest thing from day one of our trip!!!) When we were done, Paul drove us back to our hotel and even took a little drive through the rest of the Tamarindo city center to point out shops and restaurants for us.
The next day we did the full day Guachipelin Adventure Tour and OH MY does it ever deliver! You will not find a more adventure packed day at this price point anywhere else. PERIOD. Once again picked up personally by Paul at our hotel for the 90 minute private transfer to the park. Great conversation and information about the area on the ride there and back too! We started with horseback riding followed by white water tubing then back to the main lodge area for a wonderful buffet lunch–Paul joined us for lunch and made sure we were having a good time! After lunch we were off to zip line followed by a private transfer and guided by Paul to the Oropendola Waterfall. Then it was off to the Volcanic Mud Bath and Hot Springs where we relaxed for about an hour before heading back to Tamarindo Beach.
On the last full day of our vacation, we took 2 hour surfing lessons right in front of our hotel with Ronald taking such good care of us and making sure we were happy with everything. So much fun even though neither of us had ever even attempted surfing before. It was an absolutely perfect end to our adventures. We have already talked about another trip to Tamarindo and will definitely use Blue Crab again and highly recommend them to anyone else!
There have already been several reviews that have said it but I am going to repeat it: JUST GIVE THE MAN YOUR MONEY! You will NOT be disappointed!

My wife and I met Ronald on tamarindo beach where he helped us choose the perfect trip for us and was very helpful without any obligations.
We decided on a adventure trip and was picked up promptly at 7 the next morning by Paul the owner in there own private vehicle. He was very friendly and laid back and we thoroughly enjoyed our whole experience with blue crab water adventures and wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

We visited at the beginning of April 2016 and booked a day adventure with Blue Crab after we arrived in Costa Rica. Paul and his team picked us up right on time at the Westin in Playa Conchal. We did (and I highly recommend) the adventure day tour to Guachelpin. We enjoyed ziplining through the rain forest, a nice horseback ride, tubing on the Rio Negro (a few whitewater spots but nothing scary), a buffet lunch at the facility (included in the price), and the mud baths at the hot springs.
Paul and his team were friendly, knowledgable, kept things moving smoothly, and I felt safe the entire time. We kept our personal belongings in their van while we were out during our day adventure, and one of the staff was with the van at all times. We were able to access our belongings in between activities, and Blue Crab was very attentive. If I return to that part of Costa Rica again, I wouldn’t hesitate to arrange another tour with Blue Crab!
